Preparatory & holiday courses

The Department of Mathematics offers preparatory courses for those starting to study again after achieving vocational qualifications, and for all other new students. And also as an already ernrolled student, you have the possibility to prepare yourself for the next semester - with the introductory seminar L&L, holiday courses or the holiday seminar of the Hurwitz-Gesellschaft.

Make a good start in your maths studies. Mathematics preparatory courses ease your start in our degree courses. Alongside the important thematic contents, the courses also give you the opportunity to get to know future fellow students and find your way around the TUM Campus. In our holiday courses and the holiday seminar of the Hurwitz-Society, students also have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge during lecture-free periods.

Preparatory courses for vocationally qualified students

Those starting maths degree after vocational qualifications (apprenticeships etc) must take a test on their math knowledge, in order to receive subject-related eligibility for university admission.  As preparation for the test, the Department of Mathematics offers a preparatory course once a year.

Here you can find information on the current preparatory course.

The course takes place on the TUM Garching Campus: Location and directions

Precourses for new students

The TUM offers preparatory courses for new students in mathematics, physics, informatics, electrical and computer engineering, mechanical engineering and in civil engineering and surveying.

L & L - getting started with your studies

The perfect start for your studies! The course Lehr- und Lernformen (L&L - Teaching & Learning) is conceived for all those starting their first semester at the Department of Mathematics and takes place within the Semester Introductory Days (SET: Semester-Einführungstage). Within the SET Introductory Days, you can get to know the TUM and our Garching Campus and make first contacts with your future  fellow students. The practice lecture, exercise classes and group work within L&L help make your first weeks as a maths student that little bit easier. Click here to participate: Teaching & Learning (L&L).
Here you can find information on the Student Council's Program within the Study Introductory Days.

Holiday courses and the holiday seminar

Deepen your knowledge, repeat tricky topics and have your questions answered - holiday courses are ideal for those who want to prepare themselves for exams or need an introduction to software for mathematicians. The courses are a supplementary offer of our department, financed via study subsidies. There are a number of one-day or several-day holiday courses on offer.

Holiday seminar of the Hurwitz-Society

A seminar in a relaxed atmosphere: the Hurwitz-Society for the Promotion of Mathematics at the TUM offers a holiday seminare for all students of the 4th semester and higher in autumn each year.  The seminar gives students the opportunity to hear lectures and talks, to exchange mathematical ideas and to get to know the tutors better.  The holiday seminar can be credited towards your bachelor studies, as a regular seminar.
