Independent Studies: Current Talks
The Independent Studies form the core of the elite study program TopMath. In intensive independent study in their first, second and, if desired, third TopMath semester, the students work on a mathematical problem corresponding to their thematic interests, accompanied and guided by their mentor.
The result of the mandatory Independent Studies is presented at the end of the second semester, amongst others in a talk open to a general audience of university members.
Independent Studies in the summer term 2021
This term we will hear talks by Fabian Fleischer, Adrián Löwenberg Casas, Sebastian Spindler, and Alexander Strack.
The four students work in different areas of mathematics: Fabian Fleischer, mentee of Prof. Claudia Scheimbauer, deals with Topology, more precisely with K-theory and D-categories. Adrián Löwenberg Casas is part of the Scientific Computing working group and mentee of Prof. Oliver Junge. He works on dynamical systems. Sebastian Spindler conducts research in the field of applied and computational topology, his mentor is Prof. Ulrich Bauer. Alexander Strack, member of the working group Mathematical Finance and mentee of Prof. Matthias Scherer, works on univariate and multivariate extreme value theories.
The talks, which take place from September to October, are based on their areas of research.
