Mentoring for mathematics beginners: Women and men in front of PCs laughing together

Organizing modules, learning on your own and getting to know the right contact persons - starting your studies is a challenge. Our mentoring program for first-year students in the mathematics bachelor supports you.

Especially under the conditions of the current corona pandemic, personal contacts are lacking to quickly clarify questions. To ensure that you begin your studies successfully, we will provide you with a student mentor.

Mathematics Mentoring: How we support you

Our mentoring program facilitates the transition from school to university for students in their first semester and introduces them to a research-oriented way of working. Your mentor will give you valuable tips and support you personally with experience and competence in the following areas:

  • Orientation during your studies
  • Organization of your studies
  • Identification of the most suitable forms of learning for you
  • Founding private learning groups
  • Problem-solving

To help you get to know your fellow students better, informal group events are held. The focus is on the social component.

Mentoring customized for you

In the Mathematics Mentoring Program, 12 student mentors each supervise a group of around 15 first-year students. The mentoring groups result from a matching system.

All first-year students of mathematics will automatically be contacted by us in the beginning of October at the latest. You will receive more detailed information on how to register and how the program works. If you have any questions, please contact Florian Lindemann.
