Three TUM Professors as speakers at the ICM 2018

From August 1 - 9, 2018 the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) meets in Rio de Janeiro. Three professors from the TUM Department of Mathematis are invited to give a talk within this meeting.


Alongside 21 plenary talks at the ICM, there are talks on every theme of mathematices. Here, invited speakers present important scientific developments. The invitation as a speaker is a particular honor. 

ICM 2018 with Eva Viehmann, Simone Warzel and Barbara Wohlmuth 

15 of the more than 230 Invited Speakers are from Germany. The three professors Eva Viehmann, Simone Warzel and Barbara Wohlmuth make the Technical University of Munich the most strongly represented German university.

Eva Viehmann will make a presentation on "Moduli spaces of local G-shtukas" within the section „Lie-Theorie und Generalisierungen“.  Simone Warzel speaks in the section „Mathematical Physics“ and Barbara Wohlmuth in the field of „Numerical analysis and scientific computing“.

ICM in South America for the first time

The ICM is the largest mathematics congress and takes place every four yearrs since 1897 under the patronage of the  International Mathematics Union (IMU).

This years meeting takes place in Rio de Janeiro, in the Congress Center Riocentro and is the first International Mathematics Congress to take place in Latin America and even in the southern hemisphere!
