TUM is still Germany's best university

In the renowned "QS World University Ranking", the Technical University of Munich (TUM) is ranked 50th worldwide, making it the best German university for the 7th time in a row.

Rank 3 in the European Union

To compile its rankings, QS Quacquarelli Symonds, a British specialist in the analysis of higher education institutions, conducts surveys in science and business on the quality of universities. In addition, QS assesses

• the citation frequency of publications,
• the faculty/student ratio and
• the proportions of international students and staff.

As in the previous year, TUM remains in 50th place, and is thus yet again the leading German university. The ranking is led by US universities. Within the EU it is the third-best university, just behind the two French institutions Université PSL (44th) and Institut Polytechnique de Paris, a university system made up of five schools, including TUM partner École Polytechnique (49th).

TUM Mathematics lead Germany-wide

In the "QS World University Ranking by Subject" TUM Mathematics 2021 rank first among German universities. In the university ranking of the Center for Higher Education Development (CHE), the Department of Mathematics also reaches the top group almost everywhere.
