DFG uses expert commission "Science in the digital age"
A team of experts has been founded by the DFG to examine the effect of digitalization on the world of science. One member of the commision is Prof. Dr. Folkmar Bornemann from the TUM Department of Mathematics.

 

The German Research Council (DFG) has founded the commission "Wissenschaft im digitalen Zeitalter" (Science in the era of digitalisation) with the aim of analyzing and evaluating the different dimensions and possible effects of digital developments on the world of science. 

Within the commission, the experts address four main areas:

  • Processes of science and research
  • Digital assets of science and their meaning for science as a social system
  • Methods and scientific concepts
  • Digital methods and scientific principles

Alongside Bornemann, Professor for Scientific Computing and current Dean of the Department of Mathematics, the commission is composed of ten further members from the fields of science, digital business and interest groups. 

The constitutional meeting took place on October 23, 2018 in Bonn. The commission should present its results by the end of 2019.  For further information, please see the Press release of the DFG (in German).
