Application for the Doctoral degree program in mathematics with parallel Master

Conditions

  1. You are expected to complete your Bachelor degree in Mathematics with excellent grades.
  2. You can demonstrate comprehensive mathematical knowledge and at the same time you have familiarized yourself with one field intensively.
  3. You are interested in mathematical research, with a desire to do a doctorate and you already have an idea about its possible focus.

Documents for Submission

  • Application letter giving detailed reasons for applying to the TopMath program
  • Description of the topic you will present at the selection interview (e.g. topic of you Bachelor thesis)
  • Nomination of two professors whom you consider eligible as mentors for your doctorate in TopMath regarding their field of research. (Every professor of the faculty of mathematics is allowed to accept to role of a mentor; further information is available at 'Organistation')
  • Certificate of qualification for university admission (certified copy; an uncertified copy is sufficient for Mathematics students of the TUM)
  • Curriculum Vitae (in table format)
  • Transcript of records
  • Further relevant documents for the selection process (if any)

Selection Interview

  1. The applicant introduces him/herself and discusses his/her mathematical interests (approx. 5 Min.).
  2. The applicant gives a 15 minute whiteboard presentation on a mathematical topic, which was chosen by him/herself.
  3. Afterwards, there will be an intense discussion about the topic presented and the doctorate plans.
  4. Discussion with members of the committee of both math and non-math related subjects.
